Rothay Manor , Ambleside.

What is it ? – A Country house hotel and Restaurant in Ambleside , Cumbria (Right in the centre of the Lake district) 10 minutes walk from the shops and bars.
Who`s Cooking ? – Chef Dan Mc George formerly of The Michelin starred Bath Priory.
What should I expect ? The hotel is just off the main road so it`s pretty quiet and relaxing there. The food`s good , well priced and there`s lots of choice on the alcohol front so just go , unwind , eat and relax.
Must Order dish – My favourite was the Rabbit main course,
What will it cost me ? – You can choose from the A.L.C menu , 2 courses for £49 or 3 for £55. Or be a bit more adventurous on the 5 course Discovery menu (£65) or the 9 course Gourmet Tasting menu (£90).
My thoughts – Must go back for Afternoon Tea.
What`s good ? – The hotel has just undergone a huge refurbishment so everything has that new smell to it….it`s spotless. The food and Wine is all really well put together and the service comes with good conversation and smiles so what`s not to like ? The Breakfast choices were fantastic and will put the guests on for the rest of the day.
Any Negatives ? – I`m trying hard to think of any poor points but I just can`t.
Check out – Ambleside is only a few minutes walk away with traditional shops , Cafes and Pubs to keep you entertained to your heart`s content.
Would I return ? – Yes , It`s a great little hotel to escape to right in the centre of the Lake district.

Ate here – 4 of us – 3 nights ago – had the Gourmet tasting Menu at £90 each. Not every course worked but the majority did, service was well balanced and the explanations brief and clear. Bottle of Fleurie went down very well. Will go again!
