What is it ? – A well established 17th century country pub serving up good quality locally sourced food.
What`s Cooking ? – Country pub food using local and well sourced ingredients. We asked for a Tasting menu in advance and Chef was happy to cook for us.
Who`s Cooking ? – Chef Alex Beard. Alex spent 5 years cooking at the World famous “Waterside inn”. The 3 Michelin starred Roux establishment in Bray.
What should I expect ? A very pleasant escape in the countryside. If you`re wanting to run away where you won`t be found then this is the place.
Must Order dish – The Duck seems to be a customer favourite.
What will it cost me ? – A 3-course dinner will cost on average £35/40
My thoughts – It`s a great little place to stay but there`s very little in the village. Windermere is about 15/20 minutes drive away and during holiday season it`s extremely busy there.
What`s the Atmosphere like ? – A Log fire in the winter , a traditional English pub bar , it`s everything you would expect the typical country pub to be.
What`s good ? – Chef is a fantastic cook so expect a treat. Working for the Roux empire produces Chefs of quality….it wont disappoint.
Any Negatives ? We stayed in Windermere so had to leave the car and use a Taxi to get back to the hotel. Then another Taxi to pick up the car next morning.
Would I return ? – Yes , next time we`ll try the Sunday lunch.
