The House at Temple Sowerby.

What is it ? – A beautiful little country house and walled Garden (with lots of history) tucked away in a “Blink and you`ll miss it” Cumbrian village.
Where is it ? – 5 Miles East of Penrith. Leave the M6 Motorway at junction 40.
Who`s Cooking ? – Chef Jack Bradley (Ex Hipping Hall) constantly pushes himself to improve his already wonderful plates of food.
What should I expect ? – A calm, peaceful and very quiet stay in fully refurbished 16th /17th century accommodation with very reasonably priced food and Wine.
Must Order dish – Contact the hotel in advance and ask for a Tasting menu. Chef will cook whatever is in season and growing locally. The Lamb is exceptionally good.
What will it cost me ? – A room with dinner and breakfast (no Beans) will cost in the area of £200. A supplement will be added for more courses. Bed and Breakfast starts at £98.
My thoughts – Why isn`t this place on the culinary map ? Take a look at the amazing cooking being produced here. It`s the perfect one night stopover for anyone travelling South to North.
What`s good ? – The accommodation is good , The Breakfasts are really good (Bring your own Beans) ,The owners are lovely and the young waiting staff try really hard. The food is extremely hard to fault and also looks beautiful .Chef is very keen to make his mark and things can only get better. Wine prices are really good and a bottle of house Red/White will set you back £18.95. Wine by the glass is from £5.25.
Any Negatives ? – It`s quiet……really quiet. If you`re wanting to sneak off for a bit of privacy and a romantic escape then this is the place to be. There was only one other couple dining in the restaurant during our visit. The good word needs to be out there and the business put on the culinary map.
Check out – The established garden – Years ago 3 gardeners worked in a full time job here. If time allows, Chef will give you a tour of the garden showing what`s edible and what`s not.
Would I return ? – Definitely , i`m very keen to see what the kitchen produces in Autumn when produce is at its best. The house at Temple Sowerby is definitely one to watch and I really hope that this is the start of a successful path for the business.
