What is it ? – Quickly becoming a World famous Restaurant and must visit for any serious World travelling food lover. Locavore NXT is a pioneering , hyper local and sustainable destination in Ubud, Bali. Awards include – Best Restaurant in Indonesia 2019 , No42 – Asias best Restaurant 2019 , 3 Knives from Worlds Best chef awards 2025 and the most sustainable / progressive restaurant in `Asia` 2025.
Where is it ? – Roughly 10 minutes from Ubud town. It`s definitely a taxi or motorbike ride.
What`s Cooking ? Exciting, wild foraged , home grown , lab produced , fermented , distilled and recycled creations grace every plate and course here. Most of the dishes work well , a couple not so. It`s all a work in progress so the chances are that what you eat on one visit will never be repeated in any future visits.
Who`s Cooking ? – A huge kitchen team led by Chefs Eelke Plasmeijer on the left (Holland) and Ray Adriansyah (Jakarta) on the right.
What should I expect ? – Probably an experience and an education of which you`ll never have had before.
Must Order dishes – It`s a 13-15 dish multi course set menu guys so no individual dishes available.
What will it cost me ? Dinner will cost you IDR 1,950,000 ($115 \ £86) per person for the multi course experience. Creative beverage pairing IDR 650,000 ($38 \ £29 ,no alcohol) or IDR 850,000. ($50 \ £37 with lots of alcohol) A wine pairing is avaiable for IDR 1,500,000 ($88 \ £66)
My thoughts – How do they run this place ? It`s so huge , an enormous and very brave project. I`m sure they said they have 106 staff to look after. Check out the photo below and all the staff portraits on the gallery.
What`s the Atmosphere like ?. Be prepared to stand and sit open mouthed , the whole property is simply amazing. Hard to take in that such a place exists . The expense must be totally off the scale.
What`s good ? From arrival to leaving , everything is just WOW…..a foodies dream.
What`s even better ? – Staying overnight in one of their exclusive Wood rooms to experience the full Locavore package which includes – Overnight stay in a stunning room , full tasting menu for 2 guests , An amazing Indonesian breakfast in the staff canteen , A 2 hour private tour , meet the chefs , ask as many questions as you want…..just a totally heavenly experience for any food lover. Price for 2 guests is IDR 8,000,000 (£352 / $472) How good is that ?
Any Negatives / Would I return ? – 100% Yes i would go back again , but it`s such a bloody long way, it`s almost in Australia. What a shame that Michelin isn`t in Bali , the restaurant is without doubt running at Michelin star level so fingers crossed for the future. Negatives – Minimal and only my own personal view. A couple of the dishes don`t work too well and slight improvements are needed. Service is very attentive and the staff are all such amazing lovely people.
Top tips – Plan ahead , get booked in for the full NXT experience. You simply can`t visit Locavore without enjoying the full package and expriencing a happy memory for life.
