The Greenhouse – Tasting menu, London

This was the first stop of our latest foodie weekender in London and the first time at The Greenhouse restaurant in Mayfair. The Chef here is Arnaud Bignon formerly of The Hotel Bristol in Paris (rather a good addition to his CV there).Hotel Le Bristol has been  on my list of places to go for quite a while and whilst i really don`t mind paying good money for food i just can`t bring myself to pay those kind of prices for a meal….Anywhere.We`re talking £75 for a starter , £85 for a fish/ main,£ 30 for a dessert and £ 250 for chefs tasting menu.Oh and there`s also the Chicken supreme with Royal Giblets and truffled legs for £220 if you want to splash out even more. I got such a lovely surprise when i discovered that the new chef at The Greenhouse had come from Le Bristol….i picked the phone up straight away and booked.

So first stop , The Greenhouse , friday evening and straight off the freezing London streets and in to a lovely warm restaurant and a nice winter welcome. We opted for “Chefs Menu” and basically we would just eat whatever came our way….as follows.

Scallop, Beetroot, Granny Smith apple, Curry…These beauties don`t come much bigger than this…wow , i can imagine having a dozen of these as a main course…what  a treat.P1010249

Venison , Liquorice, Polenta, Dry fruit…Ok so this is my only negative of the meal , not the cooking or the dish itself but the quantity. Cmon,  they`re feeding 2 big guys here and this is the main course. One piece of grilled Polenta , a fillet of Venison and a leaf. The Liquorice sauce was poured into the cut out section of the Polenta below.A beautiful dish, the Venison cooked to perfection –  but literally gone in 2 bites.

Pomegranate , Coconut , Meringue… a little pre dessert.

Dark chocolate , Kumquat , Pistachio , Bergamot –  All in all a beautiful dessert. One of the staff came over to ask if we had enjoyed it and would we care for another dessert….Cmon , would we say no to that ? Strange but she came back minutes later with another two desserts exactly the same….couldn`t quite get my head around that one.

P1010289

Sweet treats with Coffee.

So…. The Greenhouse , well it was a nice experience and a lovely start to our London weekender. Chefs tasting menu was rather enjoyable and all cooked extremely well.Wines and service were right on the mark and our bill….. £519…Erm ,  I`ll end on that note.

Looks lovely but where are the pictures of the Scottish laird? The photos of him really enhance the blog.

    1. Ha ha….Nice one Tammi , its all about the food , not that Great big Galoot hogging the limelight. I took enough pics of him this weekend on our Edinburgh, Loch lomond and Glasgow trip. Also in the Spring we will be doing the West coast of Scotland in one of his Fire engines so watch out for that one.
